Studio Twwo delivering design workshops; inspiring the next generation of designers in Manchester.
We were recently approached by SharpFutures CIC, who we have good historic relationship with – to deliver an interactive workshop to a group of young people from Manchester. The brief was to create a brand for MCC‘s (Manchester City Council’s) new youth action charity arm, called: ‘Young Manchester’. Whilst also informing, inspiring, encouraging and coaching them through the creative process. We actually found the experience to be equally inspiring for ourselves, as the young people’s raw ideas and enthusiasm was untainted and infectious.
They ended up developing some interesting concepts, drawing upon their experience and knowledge of Manchester combined with the skills and design expertise we imparted during the workshop. After delivering a crash course in design theory, we then coached and encouraged the 14 young people [aged between 9-18yrs] through their initial development of ideas before collectively choosing our favourite design to proceed with. We were pleasantly surprised at the children’s willingness to adopt the conceptual aspect of the creative process and the quality of their concepts were as good as some professionals despite their lack of vocabulary to articulate their ideas.
We’re looking forward to seeing their concepts in the finished brand for ‘Young Manchester‘ and working more in the future with SharpFutures and local charities to help the next generation to get into the Creative Digital industry.
